Depends on the area and what time of day it is. I've never actually seen trains of people being pressed against each other but it probably happens sometimes in Tokyo. Transportation is cheap and easy, most of it is done by trams on land and subway systems underground. It's actually so easy that I've often seen children under the age of 5 traveling by themselves as if it's a daily routine for them
